Can You Wash Velcro Apple Watch Band?

It's inevitable that your Apple Watch and the watch band will get dirty. The band can get dirt marks or unpleasant smells due to being used while you're working out or out on long hikes.

Yes, you can wipe down the watch with a soft cloth, however, washing the band is another thing. After all, you can't just drop your watch band inside a washing machine.

How to Clean Your Apple Watch Band?

With the threat of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) worldwide, it is important to keep your band clean, sanitized and dry. Apart from the risk of getting infected, wearing an unclean Apple Watch band will also cause skin irritation.

Are you thinking of disinfecting your Apple Watch and its band? You should use a 70 percent isopropyl alcohol wipe or Clorox Disinfecting Wipes. Gently wipe the exterior surfaces of your Apple Watch and your watch band.

Remember, you shouldn't use this method on fabric or leather bands. Don't use bleach and you should avoid getting moisture in any openings. You also shouldn't submerge your Apple Watch and the band in any cleaning agents.

If you have a velcro Apple Watch band, the best way to clean it is the following:

  1. First, wipe the band clean with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth. Lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water if you think it's necessary.
  1. Next, dry the band with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth. After that, attach the band to your Apple Watch.

It is important that you make sure the band is properly dried after cleaning. Also remember not to expose the band to direct sunlight, high temperatures and humid conditions as they may cause damage.

If the water alone does not clean the band, you can use fabric soap. However, you should be careful not to use too much fabric soap.

Another way to clean your velcro Apple Watch band involves warm water, a bit of soap, a small soft bristled brush and a piece of clean cloth.

It is important that you use soft bristled brush as the hard bristles might tamper with the material. It can also mess up the dye.

The following are the steps on how to clean your band

  1. Before you start cleaning your band, you should remove it from the watch. This will prevent any damages on the watch while you clean the band.
  1. Soak the clean cloth in warm water and pass it through the band.
  1. Once the band is wet enough, apply a little soap on the brush and gently scrub the velcro band.
  1. Clear the soap with the cloth and make sure you rinse it every single time.
  1. After that, leave the band to dry.

You should keep your Apple Watch clean and dry. Remember that soaps, cleaning products, abrasive materials, compressed air, ultrasonic cleaning and external heat sources can cause damage.

If you have a leather band, here's how you can clean it

  1. First, turn off your Apple Watch and remove it from the charger.
  1. Remove the leather band from the Apple Watch.
  1. Wipe the leather portions of the band clean with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth. If you think it's necessary, you can lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water.
  1. Remember not to soak the leather band in water. That's because the leather band is not water resistant.
  1. After that, let the band air dry thoroughly before you attach it to your Apple Watch. You should not store your leather band in direct sunlight, at high temperatures, or in high humidity.

Take note, leather usually takes on a patina after normal wear. The leather might also change color due to exposure to substances like perfume, insect repellent, oil, lotion, or dyed materials like denim.

If you have Solo Loop, Sport Band, or Nike Sport Band, here's what you should do to clean the band:

  1. Wipe the band clean with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth. Lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water if you think it's necessary. With these bands, you can also use mild hypoallergenic hand soap for cleaning.
  1. After that, dry the band with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth before you attach it to your Apple Watch.

For all other bands, buckles, and closures, the following are the steps to clean them:

  1. Wipe the band clean with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth. If you think it's necessary, you can lightly dampen the cloth with fresh water.
  1. After that, dry the band with a non abrasive, lint-free cloth before you attach it to your Apple Watch.

How to Avoid Skin Irritation?

Do you have allergies or skin sensitivities? Here are some tips to avoid skin irritation

  • Wear your Apple Watch together with a band with the right fit. That means the band should not be too tight, not too loose, and with room for your skin to breathe. This will keep you comfortable.
  • Keep your Apple Watch and bands clean and dry. You should also keep your skin clean and dry as well. This will maximize comfort and prevent long-term damage to the watch.

This is actually especially important after workouts or exposure to liquids such as sweat, soap, sunscreen, and lotions. These liquids can potentially cause skin irritations.

  • Pick the right Apple Watch and band. Do you have known allergies or sensitivities to substances like metals or plastics? You should check the materials in each Apple Watch and band.
  • Use Apple branded or Apple authorized bands. You see, many third parties make accessory bands for Apple Watch. Such bands may not fit properly and may interfere with the Apple Watch Wrist Detect feature.

They may also contain materials that cause skin sensitivities or other health concerns. Some may even damage the Apple Watch. As such, if you want the best results, you should use Apple branded or Apple authorized bands.
